Striving for something new
Here at Flint we’re talented, passionate, and we make the best English wine we possibly can. Whether it’s our category-defying Charmat or our precision-made stills, everything we create is about balance, purity, and flavour.
Our home in rural South Norfolk plays a big role in this - it couldn’t happen just anywhere. One of the driest and sunniest spots in the UK, as well as beautiful, it gives us the perfect conditions to grow expressive, vibrant fruit, which once picked goes straight into our modern winery - it all happens here on-site.
It’s in our nature to constantly ask questions and lean into innovation. It’s an approach which we believe allows us to get the highest quality from our fruit, and to make wines that are fresh, exciting, and seriously good.
Founded in 2016
It all began with co-founder and Head Winemaker Ben Witchell (blue shirt), and his sense of curiosity; specifically for really good wine, and how to make it.
A top degree in Oenology and Viticulture was the foundation, deepening Ben’s fascination in the science behind it all. But it was two years of winemaking in Beaujolais, France, that really shaped his approach - where he refined his philosophy of blending precision with creativity.
Positioned for still wines
Ben identified Norfolk's dry weather as a perfect spot for vines, and a speculative email to local landowner and entrepreneur Adrian Hipwell turned into something much bigger.
Adrian's land was perfectly positioned to grow expressive, vibrant fruit, perfect for creating the intense and complex still wines Ben had in mind.
From humble beginnings
Initial plantings of Bacchus and Pinot Noir to get started, adding Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris in subsequent years.
While it started with one person, Flint has never been a solo act. Now, Ben leads a talented team, all hustling hard to make the best wines possible. His vision set Flint in motion, but it’s the collective drive of the whole team that keeps it moving forward.
So what is Charmat?
Our signature fizz. Flint Charmat is a tank-fermented sparkling wine made from aromatic PIWI varieties. Either a bright pink and strawberry scented rosé, or an elegant pear and elderflower white. Both Charmats suit any occasion.
What are PIWIs?
Hybrid varieties perfectly designed for our climate, and naturally disease-resistant. PIWIs are the future of sustainable grape growing, requiring lower intervention, and helping us grow in the most considered way possible. They taste great too!
The PIWI planting begins
Charmat Rosé is a vibrant pink sparkling wine made from a complex blend of aromatic PIWI hybrid varieties and fermented in tank, instead of the usual traditional method popular in the UK.
With it's success and subsequent growth we found the need for more grapes, and so the PIWI vineyard was planted in 2025.
The future
We’ve come a long way, but Flint is only just getting started. With 35,000+ vines, a cutting-edge winery, and a reputation for making some of the UK’s most exciting wines, Flint is firmly on the map. Now, we’re stepping things up.
Winery evolution
As our wines have increased in complexity, so has our winery. From a single room of small tanks in 2016 making 6,00 bottles, our winery has almost tripled in size across two rooms now filled with concrete and oak tanks alongside our tank room of stainless steel and Charmat tanks. We're due to make a quarter of a million bottles from the 2025 vintage.

Flint isn't just about the bottle
We're about the experience. We love getting people down to the vineyard to see for themselves what we’re up to. Our programme of tastings and tours isn’t your standard wine walk-and-talk; we do things a little differently. Whether it’s deep dives into winemaking, behind-the-scenes access, or relaxed, informal tastings, there’s something for every kind of wine lover.
And then there's the events. We have a full schedule throughout the year, from seasonal dinners, to full on party nights, there's something for everyone.
