Flint Vineyard is celebrating a successful awards season after receiving multiple Gold Medals at two of England's leading wine competitions. Silex 2024 won Gold at both the Independent English Wine Awards and the WineGB Awards, while Précoce 2024 also received Gold at the WineGB Awards. The team also collected the Norfolk Rural Business Award for Best Food & Drink Producer.
Gold medals for Silex 2024
We’re a bit pleased to have won some awards…
It’s not that we’re hung up on awards, particularly wine ones (we’re sure Ben will tell you why sometime). But, on this occasion, it’s meaningful because we won back-to-back Gold Medals for the Silex 24 at the Independent English Wine Awards (IEWA), followed by Wine GB.
The Independent English Wine Awards and the WineGB Awards are among the UK's most respected competitions dedicated to English wine, judged through blind tastings by experienced industry professionals. So, it’s lovely to see the Silex recognised.
The Silex is not necessarily the sort of English wine that always does well in competitions. As you know, it’s layered, complex, intriguing and reveals itself slowly, often when paired with food. In typical Flint style, it’s not a deliberate crowd-pleaser, and so the fact it shone through is lovely.
Précoce 2024 takes gold
We also won a Gold Medal for Précoce 24 at the Wine GB awards, raising a little cheer from Ben and Oli, since it’s not often that reds win golds. Sadly, we’ve just sold out of the Précoce 24, but Pinot Noir Précoce 25 has just landed, and we’re really pleased with it and, in this warm weather, perfect for drinking slightly chilled.
Even our humble winemaker, Ben Witchell, was pleased with these results: “I'm not normally one to rave about competitions as I recognise that there is a statistical element to winning. The important thing for me as a winemaker has always been consistency. Just because a wine tastes good on one day doesn't mean it's a great wine. But when you win two golds back-to-back this is a lovely recognition from different judges on different days that you might be doing something right. And on this occasion, I'll admit to being chuffed!”
Norfolk Rural Business Award

Alongside our success in the glass, we were delighted to be named Best Food & Drink Producer at the Norfolk Rural Business Awards, recognising not only our English still and sparkling wines but also Flint Vineyard's contribution to Norfolk's thriving food and drink community.
While awards aren't what motivates us to make wine, it's incredibly rewarding to see our work recognised by respected judges and industry peers. If you'd like to discover what all the fuss is about, Silex 2024 is available now, while stocks last.
