2024 Silex

66% Chardonnay, 24% Pinot Blanc, 6% Pinot Noir and 4% Pinot Gris, all hand harvested from our own parcels and two special vineyards; Whitewolfe in Kent and Martin’s Lane in the Crouch Valley, Essex.

Whole-bunch pressed, only the finest juice was fermented slowly at cool temperatures in a combination of concrete egg, neutral and 2nd-fill oak. The wines went through malolactic fermentation, were left on their gross lees for a further 12 months of ageing and blended together with the addition of three barrels of Chardonnay from the 2023 harvest. This contributed to an enhanced complexity and smoother mouthfeel.

2024 was a relatively cool year, which is reflected in the wine’s crisp and fresh style. An elegant nose of lemon curd, white peach and almond, leads to a bright, waxy palate with delicately balanced texture and acidity.
