Bright, juicy fruit, and silky smooth

Précoce 2023

Précoce 2023 is us riffing on what we think English Pinot should be: bright, expressive, and extremely drinkable.

Forget the heavier, older stuff - this wine is all about vibrant freshness and soft, silky texture.

Hand-harvested from the best fruit we can get our hands on, it’s a light yet complex red that challenges expectations.

No fuss, just pure, honest red that goes down way too easily. Perfect for a relaxed Sunday lunch, or whenever you’re in the mood.

Tasting Notes

Précoce is silky, juicy, and packed with fruit and character. Ripe cherries, Black Forest gâteau and a hint of delicate spice lead into a super-bright, fruit-forward palate with well integrated tannins, and a gorgeously smooth finish.

Food Pairing

Précoce ’23 pairs beautifully with things like pan-seared duck, mushroom risotto, or classic simple charcuterie. Perfect for intimate dinners, long Sunday lunches, or an impromptu midweek treat - because good red wine shouldn’t have to wait for a special occasion.

Technical Notes

Grape varieties:
100% Pinot Noir Précoce

Alcohol:
12 %. No chaptalisation (the addition of sugar to adjust abv) meaning the alcohol comes 100 % from natural sugars. A light-bodied, fresh style that allows the aromatics to sing.

Titratable acidity:
6.5 g / L - super supple, soft and silky. The low acidity makes this wine very approachable.

Residual sugar:
<0.5 g / L means that we've not added any sugar to back sweeten the wine. Any residual sugar comes from unfermented grape sugars. The wine is bone dry.

Vinification

Précoce requires very little in the winery and our winemaking with respect to this grape is hands-off. The grapes are picked as whole bunches and either de-stemmed and crushed upon receival in the winery or left intact.

Fermentation takes place mainly in concrete, the traditional way, which allows the wine to breathe, open up and soften. Use of both indigenous and cultured yeast strains to promote complexity and a warm fermentation (c. 25 C) to discourage over extraction of tannin or colour.

After fermentation, the wine is transferred to neutral oak barrels (5 to 7 years old) where it goes through malolactic fermentation. A further 6 months in barrel before being bottled with minimal filtration. A light touch process: the grapes do the work here and it shows in the character of the wine.

Ingredients

Grapes harvested from Flint Vineyard and Martin's Lane Vineyard (Crouch Valley, Essex). Indigenous yeasts and active dried yeasts. Minimal Sulphites (<35 mg / L FSO2) - enough to protect from oxidation but well within the principles of low intervention. The wine is not cold or protein stabilised or fined with any additions. Vegan friendly.
